RAF Typhoon FGR4s have operated alongside France's air force in a joint strike on an underground arms cache in Syrian territory used by the Daesh militant organization, according to the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by reconnaissance, was thought to be containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was located in mountainous terrain just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a number of entry passages providing entry to the facility... early reports are that the objective was successfully hit," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any civilian impact in the strike late on Saturday and all the aircraft returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon fighters were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
Daesh - referred to as Daesh - established militant control over significant areas in Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This action underscores the UK's leading role, and commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eliminate any re-emergence of Daesh and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," the British Defence Secretary the Defence Secretary remarked.
RAF aircraft have performed overwatch operations over Syrian airspace to "forestall any efforts to regroup" of IS following its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I want to thank every member of the UK armed forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their bravery," Healey added. "They were part of a great many British troops stationed over the holidays. This mission, to eliminate militants who endanger our safety, demonstrates how British military are prepared to act, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security within its borders and strong abroad."
During December, the United States armed forces executed what it termed a "major assault" targeting Daesh sites in the country, following an assault claimed the lives of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in Palmyra.
The UN estimates Daesh still has roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in Syria and Iraq.
